Permissions

OnText requires Accessibility permission to detect text selection and simulate keyboard events.

Why Accessibility Permission?

OnText needs to:

  • Detect selected text across all applications
  • Simulate keyboard actions (like Cmd+C for copying)
  • Monitor global hotkeys (like F2)

Without this permission, OnText cannot function.

Granting Permission

Automatic Prompt

When you first launch OnText, macOS will prompt you to grant Accessibility access. Click Open System Settings and follow the steps below.

Manual Setup

If you dismissed the prompt or need to re-enable:

  1. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS)
  2. Navigate to Privacy & SecurityAccessibility
  3. Click the plus (+) icon and enter your password
  4. Find OnText in the file browser, select it and double-click or click Open
Important

If OnText doesn't appear in the list, try:

  1. Quit OnText completely
  2. Re-open OnText
  3. The permission request should appear again

Troubleshooting Permissions

"OnText is not responding to F2"

  1. Verify OnText is enabled in Accessibility settings
  2. Check if other text extension tools are running - they may conflict with OnText
  3. Try reinstalling OnText

  1. Open Preferences (click menu bar icon → Preferences)
  2. Go to the General tab
