Default Actions

OnText comes with essential actions ready to use out of the box.

Built-in Actions

Opens Google search with selected text

  • Automatically URL-encodes special characters
  • Opens in your default browser

📋 Copy

Copies selected text to clipboard

  • Works in any application
  • Preserves text formatting when possible

🌐 Translate

Opens Google Translate with selected text

  • Auto-detects source language
  • Opens translation in browser

🔢 Character Count

Shows character count of selected text

  • Displays count in a notification
  • Optionally copies count to clipboard

📺 Large Type

Displays text in a large, readable format

  • Great for presenting text to others
  • Press Esc or click to dismiss

Adding More Actions

While the default actions cover common needs, you can:

  1. Reorder actions - Drag and drop in Preferences
  2. Disable actions - Uncheck to hide from panel
  3. Add custom actions - See Custom Actions

Action Library

OnText includes a built-in Action Library with pre-configured actions. You can also get updated versions of actions as they become available.

  1. Open Preferences → Actions
  2. Click + Add
  3. Browse categories:
    • All Actions - Complete list of all available actions
    • Placeholder Example - Learn placeholders by example
    • AI Services - ChatGPT, Claude, and other AI tools
    • Translation - Translation services
    • Developer Tools - Stack Overflow, GitHub, MDN
    • Productivity - Note-taking, task management
    • Search - Various search engines

Modifying Default Actions

To customize a default action:

  1. Open Preferences → Actions
  2. Click on the action to select it
  3. Modify the action configuration
  4. Changes save automatically
